Cats + Christmas trees = disaster...suggestions?

My 2 very curious cats are taking ornaments off the tree every night. Last night I'm pretty sure one of them jumped in or on the tree (there was a large indent in the branches). I tried putting pepper on the bottom branch but it didn't help. Any other ideas to keep my cats away from my artificial tree & the ornaments on it?
