Would Team Avatar have found Appa if Long Feng hadn't hypnotized Jet?

I was out with my husband's aunt yesterday and she was like " I finally saw Avatar" . OBVIOUSLY I thought she meant the last airbender. buuut I guess she was talking about that movie with the blue chick. We actually carried on for quite a while before we realized we were talking about diff movies.
